The Randoms, Part 2010

2 Aug

So the long awaited blog, yes, we are alive for those pounding on our doors asking….where or where is our latest freshest word??..well, wait no longer here it is, I hope its worth your time.:) It will be, who are we kidding, you’re at Sakrid, its always worth your time.

So for starters, when we do the randoms, we are talking about some of our faves from the past year.

Cities: Albuquerque, you have got to stop and visit this great town, refer to recent posts where we showed that Mary and Joseph were the first to tell us of this city.

Drinks: The new “Starbucks Via “for iced coffee, (get $1 off here) pretty much the coolest invention for the plastic cup I bought in Scotland in 2008 only to realize they were for sale in the States later on for half the price, but I still have a cool cup from an amazing country. Dump the powder in the cup of iced water and you have Starbucks iced coffees to go, genius.

Moms: Yes, my very own, super cool hip mom has come up with some pretty cool pillows, she’s quite the painter, Ive been begging her to make me some wall art for a long time and will wait to see that, but check out these pillows, on natural burlap, so cool, shes getting orders for countries around the world, so proud of her. www.countrycoutureonline.com

Favorite thing picked up on Road Trippin 2009: Love bracelet by Jac Vanek

Most gorgeous city: Charlotte, NC, the riches and HUGE homes go for miles and miles and its #2 on the list of “Cities to live in if you are Single.” The median age is 32 and my word is it BEAUTIFUL.

Best BBQ: IN THE WORLD, no joke, Tennessee baby. Ridgewood BBQ, I don’t how they do it, but they do, I kept telling my friends I was with I think its the best ever and turns out it has been voted one of the best! If you are driving through the gorgeous Smoky Mtns. anytime soon, its a must stop! http://bit.ly/9F01Wg

Most proud moment: Finishing my first hand crafted leather ID wallet. This one has my moms name on it, hoping she will get me that saaweet burlap wall art soon. Sakrid is now making these custom little babies.  For $122 this custom piece can be yours with your name on it (and that’s nothing compared to the leather cuff we just saw some celebs pick up that didn’t even have their name on it for $375)  Turnaround is about one week and they are so stinkin’ hot and will last a lifetime. (or at long as you don’t change names.)  Backside handcrafted art as well.

Email us for custom orders. orders@sakridclothing.com

New recent stockists: Belly Elan in Ballantyne, NC / Peekaboo Couture in Charlotte, NC / Bella Jacks in Fayetville, AR / LaLa Baby in West Hills, CA / Haute Mama in Lake Norman, NC / welcome to these new stores in the past couple months.

Those are some of our fun things we have found recently, hopefully you have found us in a store near you, Sakrid is still selling well despite a tough economy, if you have read this all the way to the bottom, email us and we’ll throw in 30% off your next retail order by emailing us saying, HEY, I read it all sista, hook me up and we will do just that. Have a beautiful day friends.

FIF-TEE Percent Project #2: Dream Center LA

26 Apr

Sakrid Clothing is proud to announce the second beneficiary of our “FIF-TEE % Project” which will be….. the Dream Center in Los Angeles, California. I could go on and on about this work, having helped there for over 5 years while living in LA myself, but I will let the numbers speak for themselves as to why it is such a worthy cause. The LA Times speaks highly of the founders and I can count myself lucky to have known these men.

from Dreamcenter.org:

“The Dream Center is located on 8.8 acres just two miles from downtown Los Angeles and a little over two miles from Hollywood. The 360,000 square-foot facility has over 1,000 rooms and a total of 9 buildings on campus. Formerly the Queen of Angels Hospital, this impressive 15-story building is viewed by over two million motorists each week on the Hollywood Freeway.

The Queen of Angels Hospital was founded by the Franciscan Sisters of the Sacred Heart in 1926. The site for the building was chosen because of the many advantages of the location. The lot sat directly in the heart of Los Angeles and was surrounded by commercial, cultural, religious, and urban society.

The neighboring landowners objected to a hospital entering their area in fear of property value dropping. They protested a petition for rezoning before the City Council and lost. Little did they know that 70 years later, the site would be the foundational piece that would help the area to survive.

The ripples of the Dream Center’s impact are reaching from the surrounding community, throughout the city and is extending to the entire country and the world. With 273 active ministries reaching out at all times of the day and night, thousands of hurting people in Los Angeles now have a way of hope.

Our Mobile Food Truck grew 70% in the first 2 years of its outreach. It now serves 2 ½ to 4 tons of food each week to starving families in impoverished neighborhoods, feeding approximately 22,000 people each month.

Through the Adopt-A-Block program, over 600 volunteers rally together each Saturday morning, armed with rakes, trash bags, footballs and smiles to reach 30,000 people in the surrounding blocks.

These are just a few of the ministries that have had a tremendous impact on the RampartPolice District  area of LA and other locations in Los Angeles. In the first four years of the Dream Center’s establishment, prostitution and gang violence dropped 73%, the homicide rate dropped 28% and rape dropped 53%.”

From Sakrid:  So you can buy a t-shirt and 50% of all retail sales from www.sakridclothing.com thru May 31, 2010 will go directly to help more people in one of the largest cities in America.

Somebody’s son or daughter or mother could be one of the people living on the streets, you can get a shirt and give them a  meal at the same time by supporting this project. We thank you for your purchase in advance, WE CAN make a difference.

Updates and Project Hai-tee

24 Feb

Contrary to popular belief, Mary, Joseph and baby Jesus actually came through Albuquerque.

Before some of you go get a Bible, I’m totally joking but I took this picture in one of my new favorite towns and that was the first thing that came to mind. Seriously, look at it, and there were no other inscriptions to educate me otherwise.:)  I love ABQ ,New Mexico! The historic Old Town area is just awesome!!!  Every time I’m in NM I think its such a gorgeous drive, but actually spending some days here now is really neat, meeting the people and seeing the homes, are so cool.

Other updates: Sakrid is still giving 50% of retail sales to Samaritan’s Purse, the global relief organization for Haiti, “PROJECT HAI-TEE” runs through Mar 31. Here are a few pictures of some of the faces so we don’t forget.  www.samaritanspurse.org

Sakrid gives 50 percent of retail sales thru Mar 31

11 Feb

Project Hai-teeEver had to eat a mud, salt and vegetable shortening cookie because  it was all there was? Many Haitians are truly fighting for life and food right now at epic proportions.

http://www.msnbc.msn.com/id/35186843/from/ET/?beginSlide=19

Starting today, Sakrid Clothing is donating half (50%) of ALL retail sales to Samaritan’s Purse. They are a HUGE government recognized relief organization which was one of the first teams on the ground in Haiti giving food, water filtration systems, shelter supplies, medicals teams and so much more. One of the greatest reasons we as a company have chosen Samaritan’s Purse for this month’s {FIF-TEE % Project} Organization is because they are widely known to use .90 cents out of every$1 directly towards the missions at hand, only .10 cents goes back into admin purposes. That is your money going back to work in a BIG way. I included some of the pictures from the ground in Haiti they have taken, unimaginable scenes, we as Americans can hardly wrap our minds around.

So get yourself something from our site and every time that tshirt is worn, remember you helped give someone a clean drink, or a roof over their head, such as the blue tarps Samaritan’s purse is providing with our money. For example, One  Sakrid “Momma’s Boy” tee shirt is $28 bucks, well when you buy , $14 will go straight to their continued work. We will update you as to the effect our money has had on Haitians in crisis.

12 Oct

Share your story and have a chance to win a tee. October is Breast Cancer Awareness month and a time we will definitely motivate women to check themselves and get checkups regularly. Having come from a family where breast cancer runs on my mothers side and having lost a co-worker after her third run of chemo after surviving 2 previous bouts of breast cancer, checkups are vital.

At 29 yrs old, I myself took a trip around the world last year to try an alternative treatment and will need to continue checkups every 6 mos the rest of my life. Otherwise completely healthy, I love my life. For the month of October, we want to hear your survivor stories. We want to hear the successes and motivate those still battling breast cancer. Send us your stories and we will post them on this blog and will randomly pick (2)  winners. One will recieve a special pink Sakrid logo scarf with Swarovski rhinestones and another a pink Sakrid Hot Wings short sleeve tee.  Let your girlfriends, mothers, sisters know Sakrid is proud to stand by and let your stories be heard. By sending us your stories you give the right to post them publicly. Below are some facts about breast cancer to keep all of us aware. Email those stories and pictures if you want to : orders@sakridclothing.com

• Currently, there are about 2.5 million breast cancer survivors alive in the United States today.

DIAGNOSIS
• In the United States, a woman is diagnosed with breast cancer every three minutes.

• One in 8 women will be diagnosed with breast cancer in her lifetime.

• In the United States, nearly 240,000 women will be diagnosed with breast cancer and nearly 180,000 will be diagnosed with the most deadly type – invasive breast cancer.

• Except for skin cancers, breast cancer is the most frequently diagnosed cancer among women.

• Breast cancer accounts for more than 1 in 4 cancers diagnosed in women in the US.

• Men can develop breast cancer, but this disease is about 100 times more common among women than men. However, men are less likely to think they have breast cancer if they find a lump in their breast, causing them to be diagnosed late.

RISK FACTORS
• The most significant risk factors for getting breast cancer are being a woman and getting older.

• Breast cancer risk is higher among women whose close blood relatives have this disease.

• White women are slightly more likely to develop breast cancer than are African American women; yet African American women are more likely to die from breast cancer.

DEATH RATES
• Breast cancer is second only to lung cancer in cancer death among women.

• One woman will die of breast cancer every 13 minutes in the United States.
More than 40,000 women will die from breast cancer this year.

PREVENTION
• Timely screening mammograms could prevent 15 to 30 percent of all deaths from breast cancer in women over age 40.

• Clinical breast examinations should start at age 20.

• Early detection saves lives.

Refer a store, get a free tee. Yep, that easy.

Word of mouth can either make or break you in most things. Friendships and business are built on great relationships. We can sell you a great shirt, but if we treat you terribly, then you’ll never come back right? So we strive to make a great product and an even better friend, that’s our theory around here.  We believe so strongly in it, we will reward you for every store referred to us by you. We’ll hook you up with (1)  in-stock tee you want whenever they say your name. Become a Sakrid sales rep basically. Dress yourself for fall with as many tees as you like, just make sure they give us your info when they order.

Also an update to the 2009 Sakrid Road Trip’:  Headed back from the Canadian border down to the Mexican border next week before heading to the East Coast for the Fall. Pictures to come soon.

Model Citizen: Amber Vehr

4 Aug

amber-1Meet Sakrid’s very first contracted model ever,  Amber Vehr.  The 27 yr old soon-to-be mother of three has become the face of Sakrid since it’s beginning in 2006. You’ve seen her with different hair colors over the years on our website and yes, is now due with her 3rd child ( we can’t believe it either)  a little GIRL.

Sakrid Clothing is very excited, mainly because we need a little girl model. We threatened to hire outside unless she agreed to have another kid. Soooo, she agreed. Ok, that’s not really how the story goes, but it does work out well for us, because Amber’s other two boys are already our main boy models featured in such tees as “My Mom is Hot” (Gavaan) and “Kind of a Big Deal Around Here”(Gage) and her husband in the ever famous “My Wife is Hot” shirt. Yes, its a family affair and for obvious visual reasons. Truly amazing to work with and their photos at www.sakridclothing.com have been used around the world and  seen in major magazines and publications.

Be watching for little Gianna due in October 2009 to be hitting the scene at Sakrid soon.

Amber, Gage and Gavaan Vehr are full-time models and available for hire. Please contact Sakrid Clothing for their info.
